Dinwiddie-Over the last 2 years, employees at the Wal-Mart distribution center, located in Sutherland, have put in hundreds of volunteer hours to renovate the Appomattox Riverside Park, also known as Ferndale. Wal-Mart has also donated $11,500 toward the effort during this time, including a recent donation of $5,500. This year the Wal-Mart team led by Kevin Elliot put a roof on the large pavilion, cleaned and raked, spread gravel on the trails and put up new fencing. In the past it has also been home to the Batteau Festival. The park boasts the last remaining part of the old canal system still intact along the Appomattox River.
